Disk Configurations

  • /home - This area will be relatively small and will contain information that the user would want backed up. This would be a good area for source code, model code repositories, configuration files, etc. This area WILL BE BACKED UP, but NOT PURGED. Quotas will be enforced.
  • Project - This area is designed for you to store input and output files or any other files associated with your project. However, IT WILL NOT BE BACKED UP or PURGED. Each project will be assigned a set amount and quotas will be enforced. It is intended that the project space will be shared by a number of people working on the same project. This area would be a good place to put your project's run environment or to house a data case that you intend on on working with repeatedly. It is not appropriate to store more cases on-line than you could realistically use at one time. It is intended that the MSS will be used to house most of the canned data sets, and they can be staged as needed.
  • /mss - Data that need to be kept around for more than just a few days should be kept in this area. These data WILL BE BACKED UP and are NOT PURGED. Each Standard Project will be assigned a set amount of space and quotas enforced. This space is also intended to be shared by those working on the same project. Quotas will not be set up for the Developmental Projects. While /mss appears to be a disk, it is in fact a disk/tape hybrid; data must be retrieved from /mss into /home, or your project area, prior to compute node processing and vice versa after processing.
  • Node Hours - A number of node hours will be allotted to each project (limited to 25 hrs for developmental projects). This allotment must be used during the project duration time (normally three months for developmental projects and up to one year for standard projects, with possible renewal each year). Your total allotment will be divided into monthly allotments based on your project duration. Each month, the actual number of hours used or your prorated monthly allotment (whichever is greatest) will be subtracted from your total allotment. If you use less than your monthly allotment, the difference cannot be reinstated.

Distribution of proprietary data without permission could result in the termination of the data delivery to GSD or legal action or both.
