Tip of the Day - MSS Posted By: lee.m.cohen On: 07-09-2008 Recent usage of the MSS has indicated that users are using the MSS mounted file systems (/arch2 & /arch3) as normal file systems. The MSS file systems are managed file systems which means that files written to these file systems are subsequently stored to tape. Copying and deleting files to the MSS can have adverse results along with the wasting of tape media. We strongly urge you to tar up static files and copying the tar file to the MSS. It is easier to manage one (1) tar file as opposed to many small files. In other words, DO NOT do recursive cp commands to the MSS and refrain from using the rm command. Even though you remove the file from the file system, it still occupies space on tape. Thank you for your cooperation. HPCS Management1.) HPCS Pages Have Moved!
